For this episode, I’m joined by the co-creators of The Sustainability in Equine Practice Seminar and Retreat as we share some of the highlights of the past two events. The community formed over these two very special weekends can be described as nothing other than magical. We are excited for the future of equine medicine whenever we gather with these amazing folks. Come join us as we help shape a better vetmed for our present and future colleagues.
Highlighting equine practices that are moving away from “traditional” equine veterinary norms is a way to bridge the gap that exists between younger and older veterinarians. We cannot hope to attract new talent to our pool of equine veterinarians if recent grads and students don’t know that there ARE progressive practices out there. I’m excited to highlight a few of these practice owners over the next couple of weeks.
To start off, please enjoy this discussion with Dr. David Stephens of Weems & Stephens Equine Hospital in Aubrey, Texas.
Julie Squires is back to take a deeper dive with us into the actual practice of setting boundaries! She has such important insight into what work we need to do when approaching boundaries in the workplace. You will get a ton of ideas from this episode regarding how to start a boundary discovery process and how to approach conversations in the workplace once you’ve nailed down some boundaries that need to be established.
You are not alone if you struggle to communicate with your boss or your employees. We are at a time in the world where five different generations are forced to play nicely when it comes to working together. Jay McChord is here today to help us understand just how differently all of these generations view life and work. You’ll also get to hear an awesome discussion on courageous leadership and how to be a great mentor. If you are a veterinarian who struggles with employee recruitment or retention, or if you are scared to talk to your boss about a new idea, this episode is one that cannot be missed.
Hear from one equine veterinarian who has fallen down, picked himself back up and agrees that equine veterinary medicine has got to change. I am excited to share my conversation with Dr. Brooke Bowman.

Talking about money can be a huge drain in our day-to-day lives. Veterinarians have these discussions all day long with pet owners. It’s understandable that dealing with your own finances at the end of the day is likely the last thing you want to do. Dr. Grace Kim of Richer Life DVM joins me on this episode to share some ideas about why it might be worthwhile to get your personal finances in order. She also shares some tactical advice on how to get started with finances if you think that money is just “not your thing.” We both feel very strongly that getting a handle on personal finances is a huge step in improving your overall well-being, so please give this episode a listen!
